Militaire Gun Does it Faster at Mohawk Austin

Militaire Gun played at Mohawk in Austin, Texas during their Life Under The Gun Tour.

Every time I enter Mohawk in Austin, I know I am about to experience one of the best shows I’ve ever attended. On February 3rd, my experience was no different. Militaire Gun took the stage on the third night of their Life Under the Gun tour in Austin’s Red River Cultural District. Touring off of their latest EP release, Life Under The Sun, Militaire Gun played crowd favorites like “Never Fucked Up Once,” older tracks like “Dislocate Me” and a new song titled “All My Friends are Having A Hard Time.” Throughout the set, the Los Angeles-based band encouraged the crowd to stage dive. During the final song, “Do It Faster,” lead singer, Ian Shelton took a dive into the crowd with the help of producer Philip Odom, who Shelton had shouted out earlier in the set. Throughout their set, supporting lead singers from Death Lens and Pool Kids joined Militaire Gun on stage.

The night began with Death Lens setting the stage with their punchy set. The Los Angeles-based band got the crowd’s energy up by hopping in the pit and playing while fans moshed around them. They also debuted a newer song called “Cold World” which has already become a personal favorite.

San Francisco-based band, Spiritual Cramp was up next at Mohawk. Their energetic set got the crowd moving with songs like “Slick Rick” and newer songs from their 2023 release such as “Talkin’ On The Internet” and “Catch A Hot One.”

Math-rock four-piece, Pool Kids was the final band to support Militarie Gun in Austin. The Tallahassee-based band started their set with a poppy crowd favorite, “That’s Physics, Baby,” and continued their set with older songs like  “Comes in Waves” and “$5 Subtweet.”

You can catch Militaire Gun touring across the United States and Canada through early March.
