Mick Jenkins started off his Thank You for Waiting 2024 North America Tour that fans lined up to see with help from TOBi for a sold-out show in Chicago.
As the venue filled up with delightful fans, friends, and family; they awaited for TOBi to open up for the first night of the tour. TOBi is a Canadian artist born in Nigeria and later moved to Ottawa, Ontario at nine years old. He uplifted the crowd as soon as he stepped out and performed soulful melodies and performances including “Before We Panic,” which was done acapella style that captivated the audience to his lyrical style of music. He had brought up his new album PANIC that he had released recently and was made to ‘get people together’ regardless of who you are in terms of race, ethnicity, creed, etc. Then not too long after had the crowd uplifted to a song Kaytranada had produced to him named “Don’t Touch!” which was a very upbeat and playful song that seemed to be a crowd favorite.
Shortly after TOBi had left the stage, Mick Jenkins didn’t hesitate to come out for his fans for the first show of this tour. Jenkins is an American Rapper who was born in Alabama but is Chicago raised; it was the perfect way to start the tour with a sold out show for the first night of the Thank You for Waiting North America Tour in his city. Playing older and newer tracks to the setlist for fans to reminisce on, he put on a show when it came to amazing the crowd. He performed music from his 2014 album The Water like “Healer” and music from his newest album he released last year The Patience.
Jenkins released The Patience (Deluxe Edition) on the same day as the Chicago show, so it was a perfect way to connect and celebrate where he was raised in with fans. Throughout the show, the crowd was requesting to hear “2004” live – Jenkins took notice and performed it, leaving the crowd jumping, dancing, and amazed after a lively performance. There was a sweet dedication he made to his wife right before performing an older track “Gucci Tried to Tell Me.” Jenkins also created an exhilarating performance to “Farm to Table” and “Guapanese,” which left the crowd wanting more. As he left the stage and fans decided to slowly make their way out of the venue, he came back for the encore song “Jazz” leaving fans turning around to support and dance to his last song of the night. Not too long after, Jenkins mentioned he will be signing vinyls and meeting fans after the show if fans wanted to stick around after.
I'm based by the Chicagoland area in Illinois. I would describe myself as a multidisciplinary artist who specializes in photo, design and some illustration. I am a recent graduate in Graphic Design and love being involved in the entertainment industry. I love thrifting, visiting galleries/museums, listening to podcasts and going to countless concerts when I can. My very first concert was the Jonas Brothers when I was very little!
