Malcolm Todd stops at The Echo Lounge and Music Hall in Dallas, Texas for his Sweet Boy North American Tour.
The line outside The Echo Lounge looked almost endless and judging by the amount of excited fans, the venue looked as if it was going to be packed. As the doors finally opened, a flood of people began pouring into the venue, desperate to get a perfect spot to see this heartthrob of a musician.
Malcolm Todd, or Mac for short, is only 20 years old and already has fans swooning over his infectious personality, and of course, his ingenious music. Originally from Los Angeles, Malcolm has been a long time lover of music, but decided to finally share his first song “In a Trance” in 2022. Soon after his advertisements were released on TikTok, he started gaining more and more attention from the masses. With his Steve Lacy-esk sound, many fans had a feeling Malcolm was about to become the next indie sensation, and they were right.
To begin the show, one of Mac’s friends, Charlie Addis, prepared the crowd for a night of dancing, laughing, and singing. Addis brought the crowd mashes of well-known songs for the crowd to really raise the energy for the show. By including songs like “Mr. Brightside”, “I KNOW?”, and “Get It Sexyy”, it did not take long for the crowd to be moshing around with each other and preparing to let loose for the evening and enjoy some amazing music.
After Addis finished up his set and left the stage, the crowd began waiting with excitement and anticipation to see their headliner take the stage. As the clock hit 9 PM the crowd began chanting “Malcolm” repeatedly, and soon after, the audience was greeted by Malcolm and four of his best friends, who also happen to make up the rest of the band. It did not take long for the venue to transform into a party full of hundreds of fans. With some screaming the lyrics to all of his songs, and others tossing up gifts like hats, stuffed animals, and signs to welcome Mac and the band to Texas. Accompanied by Jonah Cochran on keyboard and guitar, Asher Kartman on bass and guitar, Charlie Ziman on drums, Luke Shelton on guitar, Mac and his band was able to create a set full of amazing vocals and talented instrumentals.
After the set came to an end, the fans rushed over to the side of the venue to hopefully catch a glimpse or even meet Malcolm and the band. Although Mac’s night in Texas had to come to an end, he is scheduled to perform across the U.S and Canada to be able to see all of his eager and ecstatic fans across North America.
I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
