Love is Still in the Air at the Jack Kays Show on Valentine’s Dawn

The day after Valentine’s Day, Jack Kays took over Scoot Inn in Austin, Texas with support from Games We Play.

From the moment the doors opened, the energy in the air was electric. Fans packed the intimate venue, buzzing with excitement. The outdoor venue combined with the warm color of stage lights, was the perfect setting to see an artist as raw and emotional as Kays. Throughout the performance, from the first note to the last, it was a rollercoaster of emotion and energy. Before Jack Kays took the stage, the night got underway with an explosive performance by Games We Play. To say that they established the tone of the night would be a blatant understatement.

The three-man band had the crowd on its feet from the moment they began. Blending pop-punk with a fresh, modern twist, they performed catchy, energetic anthems that had the entire room singing along, including fans who perhaps were unfamiliar with their music previously. Adding to the engaging nature of their performance was the lead vocalist’s innate sense of comedic timing between songs. His humor kept the energy high and the crowd engaged, making their set feel like both a party and a stand-up comedy show.

Finally, after much anticipation, Jack Kays took the stage and the audience was thrilled. The instant he stepped onto the stage, the crowd erupted, and from there, it was obvious that this was not a concert; it was an experience.

Kays sang with every bit of feeling that he possessed, and he gave it all he had in each song. His eclectic blend of rock, folk, and a pinch of hip-hop truly resonated with the crowd who shouted his lyrics back at him with an intensity that lingered in the air. Tracks like Morbid Mind and Throwaway hit home, and tracks like Caffeine saw everyone jumping and howling along. The energy continued to build throughout the evening, with Kays feeding off the enthusiasm of the audience, running all over the stage, and even going so far as to stretch out and grab hands with people at the barricade.

The highlight of the evening, however? A surprise on-stage proposal. Midway through the performance, Kays broke for a moment to bring a man from the audience down onto the stage who went down on a bent knee and proposed to his girlfriend in front of everyone. The crowd was moved by the beautiful moment, and even Kays seemed as excited as the couple themselves. It was a moment that made the special evening all the more memorable, inspired by the lingering love in the air from yesterday’s Valentine’s Day spirit.

By the last song excitement in the building continued at a record level. The mix of raw emotion, power ballads, and honest crowd interaction made for an amazingly intimate show. Both Games We Play and Jack Kays offered performances that were both musically superior and emotionally gripping.

There were tears, there was laughter, and even a twinkle of love in the air—literally. Austin’s live music culture thrives on moments like these, and this concert was proof of why live music works so well. If you get the chance to see Jack Kays live, don’t miss out. It’s not just a concert—it’s an unforgettable experience.

I'm an Austin-based photographer and filmmaker. I'm a mother of two (cats) and I love picking up expensive hobbies to spend all of my money on, whether that be tattoos, vinyl, or concerts. My top three artists are Dijon, Mk.gee, and Dominic Fike. I love to travel and learn new ways to fulfill myself creatively. My biggest aspiration is to find the most imaginative way to seamlessly combine my 3 favorite things: film, photography, and music.
