At their stop in Houston’s White Oak Music Hall, Lip Critic’s high-energy movements transformed the space into a wild, multidimensional experience.
Promoting their newly released album, Hex Dealer, Lip Critic’s North American Tour offers a vigorous and refreshing experience for fans who catch the action. Each member of the quartet contributed to a genuine connection with the audience in Houston, creating a space for freedom of movement and expression. The combination of the setup, the band’s cohesion, and the delivery of fast-paced lyrics created an unforgettable experience.
The stage setup was visually striking, featuring two drum sets that provided a solid foundation for the band’s electronic punk sound. The strength and rhythm from the drummers contrasted with the raw, frenetic energy of vocalist Brett, which then in turn contrasted with the fluid, more contained motions of synth-maestro Connor. The band’s commitment to engaging the audience was palpable, from the acknowledgement of fans to the encouragement of a mosh pit. Microphone cords were stretched to their limits as the band moved back and forth between the stage and the audience. The band’s physical interaction with fans allowed for the freedom of some rough dancing, which is the best way to enjoy the music and show of this caliber.
Lip Critic maintained the high energy essential for their sound, which, when experienced live, felt like a computer taken into the ether with a virus infection. The setlist included bangers like “DREAMLAND 1”, “Angel” , “The Heart” as well as a good chunk of songs from their 12-track project Hex Dealer. Most of their songs flowed into one another, blending at times with different instrumentals. At one point, Danny, one of the drummers, delivered a screamo rendition of the song “Milky Max,” which added an unexpected twist.
Whether you’re a fan of electronic punk or simply enjoy innovative live performances, a Lip Critic show is the place to be. Their ability to maintain a dynamic stage presence will leave a lasting impression, proving that they can indeed power a small city with their energy. You can catch them on the rest of their 2024 North American Tour or later in the fall on their UK tour.
