Legendary Mexican Singer Natalia Lafourcade Enchants Houston with a Taste of Home

Hailing from Mexico City, Mexico, Natalia Lafourcade is one of Latin America’s most beloved voices. Her sound blends pop, jazz, and orchestral strings with a warm Mexican touch.

On April 24, 2025, she released her latest project, Cancionera. Shortly after, Natalia Lafourcade arrived at Houston’s stunning Hobby Center for the Performing Arts to perform songs from her new work along with multigenerational classics.

The stage was divided into three mini set-ups where she transitioned wardrobes and characters throughout the show. It was a night full of laughter as she shared stories about how songs came to life, and raw, heartfelt vocals accompanied only by an acoustic guitar. This minimalist arrangement allowed the audience to focus solely on her voice and lyrics.

Lafourcade opened her set with songs like “Apertura Cancionera,” “Cancionera,” and “De Todas las Flores.” Her enchanting vocals captivated a crowd that spanned generations, all singing and clapping along. Between songs, she reflected on Mexico, her roots, and her career with warmth and charm.

Love was definitely in the air that evening. After performing “El Palomo y La Negra,” a man in the audience stood up and called out, “¡Natalia! ¡Me quiero casar con mi negra!” To which she joyfully replied, “¡Pues cásate!” The man dropped to one knee and proposed! It was a beautiful moment, especially as the song is about “El Palomo y La Negra” getting married. The Houston crowd erupted into the iconic chant, “¡Beso, beso, beso!”—a chorus also featured in the song.

Lafourcade closed the night with some of her biggest hits like “En el 2000,” “Hasta la Raíz,” and a track that brought tears to my eyes, “Soledad y el Mar.” The Mexican songstress is continuing her Cancionera Tour across the U.S. and the world. If you want to feel every emotion in one night, this is a must-see show.
