Jerry Cantrell visited House of Blues Houston with support from Filter on his I Want Blood Tour.
Since the early 90s, Jerry Cantrell has been an iconic figure in the world of grunge. Before Nirvana brought grunge into the mainstream with their legendary album Nevermind, Layne Staley, Mike Starr, Sean Kinney and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains made their debut with Facelift in 1990. Since then, the band has become one of the most popular of not only their genre, but the entire decade of the 90s. Jerry Cantrell is still a member of Alice in Chains, and the group still tours and makes new music. In 1998, Cantrell introduced fans to his first solo record, Boggy Depot. Since then, he has released four more albums, the most recent of which being I Want Blood, released in October of last year. Cantrell brought the I Want Blood Tour to House of Blues Houston on February 26, 2025 with special guest Filter.

Formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1993, Filter has been making waves for over three decades. Their 1995 debut album Short Bus contains some of their greatest hits such as “Hey Man, Nice Shot” and “Dose.” Their latest release was record The Algorithm, 2023. Filter was also featured on a track by Deadly Apples called “Volatile,” released in January of this year. Filter kicked off the night with the track “You Walk Away” from their 2002 record The Amalgamut. Instantaneously, the crowd was loving the energy the band brought. Frontman Richard Patrick performed with great enthusiasm and stage presence for the entirety of the set. Halfway through, Filter performed their most famous song “Take a Picture” a mellow track from their sophomore album Title Of Record. To wrap things up, they played “Welcome To The Fold” and “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” which are two of the band’s most famous hits and made for a great transition into the headlining performance to follow.

As Jerry Cantrell and his backing band took the stage, the audience roared with excitement. Cantrell jumped right in with “Psychotic Break”, then transitioned into a cover of “Them Bones,” one of Alice in Chains’ most famous hits and track 1 of their 1992 record Dirt. Many fans sang along to the iconic tune, excited to hear Cantrell performing Alice in Chains songs that many of us know and love. Cantrell and his backup singer Greg Puciato harmonized beautifully on stage, much like Cantrell and late Alice in Chains lead vocalist Layne Staley once did in the 90s. Harmonies are one of the many things Alice in Chains is known for, and it’s apparent that Jerry Cantrell has integrated the characteristic into his solo work as well, as he harmonized with Puciato for many of the songs performed.

He played much of his solo work including “My Song” and “Cut You In”, two of his biggest hits both hailing from the record Boggy Depot. Cantrell also played several more Alice in Chains covers including “Man in the Box”, “Hate to Feel” and “Would?”. After a brief break, Jerry Cantrell and his band returned to the stage for an encore which included “Held Your Tongue”, a cover of Aerosmith’s “Sick as a Dog,” “Brighten” and a cover of Alice in Chains’ “Rooster.” The audience had a fantastic time watching Cantrell and his bandmates play such a long and diverse setlist. Jerry Cantrell’s I Want Blood Tour will wrap up in his home state of Washington in Seattle on March 9th.
