Kaytranada Transcends Austin Right From the Heart of the City at the Moody Ampitheater

Transcendent soundwaves and intricate lights filled the streets of downtown Austin on Thursday as Kaytranada took the Moody Amphitheater.

The scene was set in the heart of the city, accompanied by a chilly breeze and a beautiful backdrop of the famed Austin skyline. The incredible atmosphere paired with the sounds filling the air, made for a night full of rhythm and pleasure.

The stage was decorated with a simple mixing table and a glass of wine, allowing Kaytranada’s creative sound to take center stage. As the lights dimmed and the bass grew, the crowd began shaking in anticipation. When he finally took the stage, the crowd erupted in applause and cheers, marking the start of an unforgettable night.

Kaytranada showcased his unique blend of house, hip-hop and R&B as he effortlessly transitioned from song to song, creating a smooth flow that kept the crowd moving. He took us through his extensive discography, with features from PinkPantheress, Pharrell, Aminé and plenty more. He also scattered in some live mixes using samples from songs that each audience member recognized, creating an absolutely astounding ambiance and mood from each side of the venue. Moody Amphitheater’s sound system resonated flawlessly, creating a perfectly balanced sound experience, allowing every bass line and synthesizer to envelop the audience and create a euphoric atmosphere.

Kaytranada interacted with the audience throughout the evening, encouraging them to dance and lose themselves in the music. His performance was filled with moments of audience participation, pausing to absorb the energy, a testament to his connection with his fans. He did not sell short on the dancing, either, if he wasn’t focused on mixing, he was scanning the audience, reciprocating their energy and dancing with them. The visuals on stage were equally as fervent. The lights accented the energy promoted by the sounds filling the atmosphere. The pyrotechnics were incredible to see, as well. Each time they framed Kaytranada’s silhouette, the fans cheered with “oohs” and “ahs.”

As the show came to its peak, the ambiance was felt from each corner of the city. Whether you were dancing at the barricade, or partying with your friends overseeing the venue from the fifth level of the Dell Seton Hospital parking lot, the collective effervescence was felt through the veins of everyone in the sound vicinity of the Moody Amphitheater.

I'm an Austin-based photographer and filmmaker. I'm a mother of two (cats) and I love picking up expensive hobbies to spend all of my money on, whether that be tattoos, vinyl, or concerts. My top three artists are Dijon, Mk.gee, and Dominic Fike. I love to travel and learn new ways to fulfill myself creatively. My biggest aspiration is to find the most imaginative way to seamlessly combine my 3 favorite things: film, photography, and music.
