Interpol visited Houston on their Interpoleros Tour with El Mato a Un Policia Motorizado and support from Narrow Head.
Formed in Manhattan in 1997, Interpol is a popular alternative rock band that rose to fame during the New York indie music scene of the early 2000s alongside bands such as The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem. The group has released seven albums over two decades— their debut album Turn On The Bright Lights being released in 2002, with their most recent album The Other Side Of Make-Believe being released in 2022. Interpol visited Houston on May 5 at Bayou Music Center with El Mato a Un Policia Motorizado and Narrow Head on their Interpoleros Tour.
Kicking off the night, Houston based alt-rock band Narrow Head took the stage. The group joined the bill exclusively for the Houston show, as Interpol and El Mato a Un Policia Motorziado have a different local band opening each stop of the tour. Narrow Head has gained notoriety with their popular tracks such as “Ashtray” and “Nodding Off”, and even recently performed at Coachella festival, making for a great opener to get the audience excited for the performances to come.
El Mato a Un Policia Matorizado began their set with “El Magnetismo”, one of their most famous songs. Hailing from Argentina, the indie rock band has been active since 2003 and released over ten albums/EPs while building a dedicated fan base. Their performance was nothing short of spectacular as all of the members on stage were having fun playing the music that so many of their fans know and love. El Mato completed their set with the songs “Ahora Imagino Cosas” and “Chica De Oro”, then made way for Interpol to take the stage.
Interpol was greeted by a screaming crowd as they began the show with one of their most streamed tracks “C’mere”, from Antics, their popular 2004 album. The stage was backlit and fog machines were running, adding a mystical vibe to the production. Frontman Paul Banks’ voice sounded incredible and the entire band’s presence on stage was entertaining and mesmerizing. Interpol played many notable tunes throughout their set such as “Obstacle 1”, “Rest My Chemistry”, and “Evil”, their most famous song. The band left stage briefly at the end of the night, only to return and perform an encore with the songs “Pace Is The Trick” and “No I In Threesome”, both off of Our Love To Admire, and finished off with “PDA” from Turn On The Bright Lights. Interpol’s set was absolutely perfect as they played a little off of each album, catering to all fans in attendance. Interpol’s Interpoleros Tour ends on May 10 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band has upcoming dates at festivals including Cruel World Festival in Pasadena, California and Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I’m a Houston based photographer who loves being around live music and all the creative people involved in the local music scene. I enjoy capturing performers and artists doing what they love and the essence of how live music makes people feel. When Im not behind the lens, I love trying new things and visiting new places.
