Dante’s Room releases brand new single “Jazmin” and plays a monumental show to help promote it.
Formed in 2022, Dante’s Room consists of Jack Hamilton (bass guitar), Maya Singh (lead guitar, vocals), and Cris Ruiz (rhythm guitar, vocals), and rallies various local drummers to play with them at live shows. The band has become a Houston music scene staple, playing at various diy house shows and gigs at unique Houston venues, all of which in front of huge crowds. Dante’s Room released their debut single “Jazmin” on March 31, followed by a promotional gig at Wonky Power Live on April 8. The show yielded many fans, friends, and family members. Local drummer Jesse Gonzalez filled in on drums for the show and impressed the crowd with his excellent performance. Together, the band sounded killer and put on an energetic and engaging show.
“Jazmin”, with a run time of four minutes and 20 seconds, takes listeners through a hard-hitting and captivating ride. The song starts off with a mellow guitar riff followed by groovy drums and an undeniably unique bass line. The song progresses with heavy guitar riffs, relatable lyrics and unbelievable drum fills, which are performed on the record by drummer Matt Mireles. Not only is “Jazmin” pleasing to listen to, but it also contains true depth within the lyrics. “‘Jazmin’ is about the loss of innocence as it compares to the increase of a substance”, says Jack Hamilton. “We were freshman in college when writing the song, that’s kind of an interesting point in your life. We were living a very alternative lifestyle.”
“Jazmin” is meaningful in more ways than one. Being the first song that Dante’s Room ever wrote, it is significant to the band’s growth and bond. “You can ask anyone in the band and they will tell you that ‘Jazmin’ is their favorite song. It’s the first one we ever wrote — it’s really special”, Maya Singh says. “It helped us find our sound and it helped me find confidence. Over time, this was the song where I was like I can do it, I can play in front of people. It’s like my child. It just gave me the confidence to stand in front of people and put myself forward. I went on tour with Madeline the Person and I would have never have been able to do that without this song.”
Dante’s Room is well known within the Houston music scene for having distinctive sound and including unforgettable musicians. The band works together closely to create music that is individual and distinct from any other group. “Really, I didn’t know a thing about jamming with other musicians and what it meant to have a musical connection with someone until I met Jack and Maya”, says Cris Ruiz. “We sat there and jammed out this weird structure of chords and words until it became a thing where the three of us were trading off the spotlight. It just turned into a musical carousel essentially, of us just speaking, listening and being. It’s an exemplification of the unconventional approach to songwriting that we have. ‘Jazmin’ is the basis of who we are. Being formed in this idea of growing old but outgrowing old habits is this bittersweet ideology that the whole track dances around.”
The teamwork and dedication has truly paid off for Dante’s Room. The debut single already has thousands of streams and the promotional show attracted hundreds of supporters. Click here to stream “Jazmin”.
