Chicagoans experienced two nights to remember at the Salt Shed. Singer-songwriter, Grizzly Bear, truly blew away the Windy City.
As the first snow falls this winter, Toledo opens the final night his enchanting show, delivering their dreamy indie sound infused with hints of psych-rock. The band performs a special set, showcasing both new and old tracks to close out Chicago’s Salt Shed. Bathed in warm, cozy lighting, Toledo captivates the audience to complete silence, setting the scene for their stellar headliner. As stage lights dim and the crowd grows larger, a faint buzz of excitement increases as showtime approaches.
Fog and soft blue and pink hues create a tranquil aura as Grizzly Bear takes the stage. Starting with an epochal deep cut, “Alligator,” the band has the crowd’s full attention. You can feel the strong energy of appreciation and awe as the audience stands in utter peace as Grizzly Bear performs superbly. Hypnotizing harmonies and insane chemistry engulf one’s ears as the sounds of Veckatimest, Shields, and Yellow House play. You witness the magicians behind every drum beat, guitar riff, and bass note as synchronizing lights shine upon the stage in what feels like disbelief.
Die-hard fans jump strenuously as they syncopate their bodies with the bass drum, but a quick moment of silence falls upon them as Victoria Legrand takes the stage. Legrand has been collaborating with Grizzly Bear for years now and even appears on Veckatimest.
The lead singer of Beach House performs a track from the film Twilight with Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste. The night has reached new heights, creating a dreamlike atmosphere illuminated by cool-toned lighting. And with Legrand on stage, one thing is for certain: Grizzly Bear’s most popular track will be played soon. Bolting threw the speakers and lugs of the audience as the iconic duos played, “Two Weeks”; the night had reached its climax. Euphoria devours the listeners as the number one hit by their beloved headliners joyously sing from the heart.
There’s a special place Chicago holds Grizzly Bear, and it’s in our hearts. With two stellar nights and an impeccable setlist at the Salt Shed, there is no doubt in saying that this Grizzly Bear tour is a must-see.
