Grassland String Bands Sets the Roof on Fire at the Georgia Theater

On June 8th, Grassland String Band performed at the Georgia Theater Rooftop, taking in all the glory as this local Athens band has been on a rock and roll streak.

Grassland String Band has been playing all over the city and around Georgia these past couple of months. The band of seven consists of talented guitarists, drummers, banjo players, fiddlers, singers, and songwriters.  Started back in 2014, the band has been an Athens favorite. They describe their genre of music as “Americagrass,” which combines hints of bluegrass, americana, and indie folk. Their latest single, “Heartache and Driftin’,” was released back in 2019. However, the band is currently working on new music and plans on publishing their next album in the coming months.

Last Wednesday, Grassland opened their show right on schedule and played their greatest hits. This includes “American Flag,” “Dusty Boxcar Wall,” “Dreamers,” and “Neil Young.” They also played a few covers during their time on stage. Many music lovers flocked up to the roof to catch their performance before heading downstairs to the Robert Earl Keene show at 7:30pm. It was an amazing night for the band and for the audience. Everyone enjoyed the good music, food, drinks, and the skyline of the Classic City.

If you’re an Athens resident or looking for a great night of live music, Grassland String Band has a few upcoming shows. They will be closing out the night at the Southern Brewing Company’s “Classic City American Music Festival” on July 2nd. The band will also be performing at the Atlanta Braves Game on July 9th.
