Phoenix Arizona’s shoegaze darlings, Glixen, play Houston’s White Oak Music Hall with support from Suzy Clue and She’s Green.
It’s finally time for Glixen’s much anticipated Quiet Pleasure’s Tour to make its stop at White Oak Music Hall. Although doors aren’t for another hour, excited fans line the venue, hoping to get a spot at the front. By the time doors open, the block is filled with concert goers. The room is already packed with everyone pressing toward the front while Minneapolis’s She’s Green takes the stage.
She’s Green starts their set and the audience is immediately drenched in textured dream-pop. Tender, soft, and sweet, She’s Green’s sound is one that evokes a gentle, nostalgic ache from its listeners. The audience sways as they move their way through their set, completely entranced by their raw and honest songwriting.

As She’s Green exits the stage there is a noticeable vibe shift, and soon the audience is introduced to London/New York’s Suzy Clue. Bold, sexy, and in-your-face, Suzy Clue is an amalgamation of genre that combines dark, grungy shoegaze with early 2000’s radio rock and goth influences. Suzy was born to perform, commanding the audience’s attention as she sings, screams, and dances up and down the stage. After taking a dive into the audience and crowd surfing on excited fans, Suzy Clue’s set comes to its end.

At this point the audience is ready to go. The second the headliner of the evening, Glixen, steps on the stage the crowd erupts in cheers. Glixen takes no time getting started, filling the room with their signature sound. Dense, fuzzy, dark, and beautiful, Glixen crafts their own universe, an immersive dreamscape that sucks their listeners right in. Aislinn Ritchie’s vocals float through the wall of sound that wraps around the audience, each song ramping up in intensity and power as they move through their set.

Glixen ends their set with their newest single, “Lick The Star”. The audience chants for an encore immediately. Soon, Glixen returns to the spotlight and rip into the rowdiest encore of all time.
Glixen plays their last two songs with enough power to rock the building. The crowd pushes and shoves while moshing, as the driving fuzz shakes the room. Members of the opening acts return to stage to dance. One artist stage dives into the audience to start a circle pit. The encore becomes a celebration of the tour, of the listeners, of the unique space in the shoegaze genre they have all carved out for themselves. Finally, the set ends, the band leaves the stage for the last time, and the crowd disperses, exiting the dreamscape Glixen invited them into.

I’m a photographer born and raised in Houston. Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a teenager, I love attending local shows and supporting the Houston music scene. If I’m not at a show I’m probably making my own music, hanging out with my cat, or binge watching RuPaul’s Drag Race.
