In celebration of their newest album, Romance, Irish alternative band Fontaines D.C. set off on an eighteen-date USA tour in late April of this year. For their fourth stop, on April 25th, the band stopped at Houston’s White Oak Music Hall for a completely sold-out performance.
Starting off the night was Jadu Heart, an alternative duo from London. Their exciting, experimental sound was an amazing way to open the show. The pair played many songs from their newest album, POST HEAVEN. This included “U,” “AUX” and “Mild to Moderate Pain.” Off Record actually got to speak with the band ahead of their Houston show, which you can read here.

About thirty minutes after Jadu Heart’s set, Fontaines started to take the stage and “Romance” began. On beat with the heavy drops in the song, there was a pulsating neon green light illuminating the venue every few seconds. It was an eerie yet beautiful opening to the show that set the tone for the remainder of the night.
With an hour and a half to play, the group made sure to deliver a jam-packed show with a setlist full of hits. From “Roman Holiday” to “Big” and “Bug,” Fontaines D.C. played a nice mix of songs from all different eras in their discography. In fact, it seemed to be a perfect setlist as the whole venue was singing every single song at the top of their lungs. It was not only a beautiful thing to hear, but also a beautiful sight to see as the Houston crowd connected with the band. When the crowd wasn’t singing, they were either smiling from ear to ear or cheering for the song that just concluded.

The band concluded their main set with a sweet song called, “Favourite.” While the group did thank the city and walk off shortly after the song was over, it didn’t mark the end of the night. In the period of their absence, the walls of White Oak loudly echoed with the chants of fans hoping the band would come back out for an encore. “One more, one more!” and “Fontaines, Fontaines!” filled the venue for a few minutes until Fontaines D.C. took the stage for a four-song encore.
The night officially ended with “In the Modern World,” “Desire,” “I Love You” and “Starburster.” Overall it was an electric performance that truly stood out because of the amazing sound that Fontaines D.C. has worked so hard to create over their time as a band. While Houston was incredibly sad to see them go, it was a night they will never forget.
Fontaines D.C. will be on their USA tour until mid-May. Get tickets here.
