In the wise words of alternative rock band Sonic Youth, “It’s getting kind of quiet in my city head. It takes a teenage riot to get me out of bed right now.” It’s been apparent since the days of Sonic Youth that teenagers have been no stranger to making an impact on the world around them through music.

This sentiment has been  especially true when it comes to the North Texas Youth Music Scene. This part of texas has a lot of musicians who are making a  name for themselves and leading a “teenage riot.” Every day it seems like more  local musicians are making a name for themselves each year. Bands like Mineral Wells, The Paper Bears, Honey Locust ,Drug Of Choice, and This Saturn Factory, across the metroplex are making an  “image”  for themselves.Playing independent shows either at a backyard or a small venue. Despite all these bands being youth-led  it’s clear that  their age isn’t gonna stop them from rocking to the fullest extent possible. Having said that, here are five youth musicians from North Texas that you should consider listening to sometime soon.

Honey Locust

Honey Locust is a Dallas band with three members. They have a single out right now Called Dust in the Wounds Pt. III along with another EP known as Vulture. This shoegaze album was phenomenal and their vocals were pretty good. Despite only having two albums and an EP they have a pretty impressive catalog of music released.

This Saturn Factory

This Saturn Factory is a local band out of Dallas  formed by city  natives Rowan Caroll and Luke Stephens. Let me just say this band captures your attention with every melody and note change they have. They just released their first  EP  Underwater Water Adventures With Friends. With smooth vocals, rich ballads, and phenomenal mixing their album is sure to keep you listening attentively from the first track to the last track. This album is great for anyone looking for a more relaxed vibe with the kind of music they listen to, when it comes to this album you can simply  listen to this music and feel immersed.

Mineral Wells

Mineral Wells is a four-member band from Dallas Texas  They just released their first shoegaze album also known as Live, The Show Tomorrow. Featuring brilliant guitar work and great drumming this band manages to impress you with their work. It’s clear that when you listen to Mineral Wells you can tell they are giving it their all.

Buschmann Moss

Along with being involved with Mineral Wells, he also released his solo album Us Horses Run Free . The vocals feel raw and emotional while the melody is comforting and welcoming to listen to. Definitely worth giving a listen to.

I'm from Plano, Texas. As an advanced technical theater student at Plano East Senior High, I have a deep passion for physical media, particularly collecting records and CDs. I'm also an avid member of my high school's tech crew, where I spend much of my time building and assembling, which fuels my creativity. When I'm not in the classroom shop crafting the next set piece, you can find me vibing to the eclectic sounds of Le Tigre, They Might Be Giants, and Mazzy Star.
