Dylan Gossett Delivers the Back on 40 Tour to Oklahoma City

Dylan Gossett and the Back on 40 tour made a memorable stop at the Criterion on March 28, 2025. This performance marked his first show in Oklahoma City and his second stop in Oklahoma.

Alabama native Drayton Farley took the stage for his fourth and final night as the opener on Gossett’s Back on 40 tour, delivering a raw and sincere performance characteristic of his discography. His songs present a collection of solemn, lingering experiences. Farley’s performance of “Pitchin’ Fits” stood out as a heartfelt highlight of the set.

When Dylan Gossett took the stage, he was greeted by applause and whistles from the audience. He opened the night with “Stronger Than a Storm,” a song featured on the Twisters (2024) film soundtrack—an especially fitting choice for the Oklahoma crowd. The track’s themes of resilience paired with an upbeat track created an energetic atmosphere that lasted throughout the night. Gossett blends cinematic storytelling with an authentic sound that has become his signature as a rapidly rising country artist.

The setlist was a well-curated journey through Gossett’s discography, featuring tracks from his debut EP No Better Time and his latest project Songs in the Gravel.

The audience’s energy crescendoed during “Finally Stop Dreaming.” The venue was alive with collective clapping and singing from the crowd. Another standout moment was Gossett’s performance of “Beneath Oak Trees,” a poignant ballad completed by the sincerity in his delivery. This authenticity is a hallmark of Gossett’s artistry, allowing listeners to connect profoundly with his music.

On stage, subtle lighting changes and a minimalist stage setup allowed the focus to remain on Gossett and his band, emphasizing the rawness and authenticity that define his style. Gossett shared anecdotes between songs, offering glimpses into his journey from his roots in Austin, TX, to his life on tour.

As the concert concluded, Gossett performed a rendition of his breakout hit “Coal.” During the encore, Gossett performed a soulful cover of The Animal’s “House Of The Rising Sun.” Finally, the evening ended with a performance of “Somewhere Between,” a triumphant song which encapsulated the evening’s spirit with a lingering melody.
