On Friday January 10th, dream pop band Vansire played a sold out show at Austin’s Parish.
Vansire is an American dream pop band from Rochester, Minnesota founded by Josh Augustin and Sam Winemiller. The band is known for their notable combination of ethereal synth sounds and introspective lyrics. They first gained recognition after releasing their 2018 album Angel Youth, which features their viral hit “From The Subway Train”. In years since, the group has released multiple LPs and singles, including their hit 2019 single “Metamodernity”. They most recently released their single “From Your Own Eyes in September of 2024.
Vansire came out to a packed, sold out house at Parish on Friday night. The crowd was filled with wonderstruck, entranced eyes from the moment the band took the stage. Vansire performed a wide array of songs from their discography, leaving the audience dancing one moment and close to tears the next.
They touched upon their older tunes with songs, such as “That I Miss You” and “Eleven Weeks”. They also introduced their latest works, featuring live debuts of unreleased songs. In between songs in their dreamy set, frontman Josh Augustin expressed his gratitude for the experience, noting how “meaningful [it was] to share th[e] space” with the audience amidst “such terrible things going on in the world right now.”
The group’s performance was, in a way, the complete opposite of what it means to perform. A genuine sense vulnerability and appreciation coursed through every song and side comment, harvesting a profound connection between artist and audience. After their set concluded, one thing became abundantly clear: a Vansire show can make you feel things like no other.
I am a photographer and live music lover based in Austin and raised in Houston. I recently graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, where I studied Marketing and co-led the photo team at Afterglow ATX. I feel most at home where people are moshing, thrifting, or sipping coffee. My favorite artists include The Maine, Pierce The Veil, 5SOS (+ Luke's solo work), Waterparks, MCR, Taylor Swift, and Harry Styles.
