Jessy Lanza creates a dreamy yet electronic energy to Denton for her “Love Hallucinations” North American tour.
Canadian DJ Jessy Lanza takes the stage at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios as the projector carries ethereal light motions to the screen. Lanza has a discography dating back to 2014, with her first release, “Pull My Hair Back.” Throughout her career as a DJ, she has worked with other artists, including Tensnake and Caribou, and continues to create more unique tracks with her latest album release, “Love Hallucination.”
Before Lanza’s appearance, opener Joel Shanahan, commonly known as “Golden Donna,” prepares the crowd with idiosyncratic noises and synthesized beats, experimenting with ambient waves of sounds. After Shanahan’s sublime set, the crew does one final audio check before the crowd is sucked into an otherworldly oasis of sounds. With defining beat drops and a mix of dream-pop vocals, the music is almost in juxtaposition with itself. Lanza creates a unique vibe with her distinct upbeat yet almost soft style of melodies, where the crowd is sent into a state of euphoria and is given the overwhelming urge to dance. Angie, her sister, is up on stage with Lanza, enhancing the show with drums and guitar, working together to create a visually and audibly unique show. Debuting her newest album, Lanza has a few more stops left on her North American tour, so if she stops near your area, experience this exclusive feeling of live music with Jessy Lanza.
I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
