Dallas Matches Tinashe’s Freak at the South Side Ballroom

Opener Raveena joins headliner Tinashe at the South Side Ballroom in Dallas.

On October 22, R&B artist Tinashe continued her Match My Freak World Tour at the South Side Ballroom in Dallas, Texas. On this tour, she was accompanied by pop artist Raveena. Inside of the venue, hundreds of fans gathered on the floor to claim the best spot to view the show. The tour merch was fun and unique, and included shirts, posters, vinyl, and matches.

The first act of the night was Raveena, a singer-songwriter from New York. Raveena has more than a million monthly listeners on Spotify, and her track “If Only” has accumulated almost fifty million streams. This year, Raveena released her third studio album titled Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain. Raveena was joined on stage by her multi-instrumentalist band member, and she wore a long blue floral dress. Her aesthetic stage setup included a large tree decorated with flowers and gems, and a curtain with bubble letters that spelled out her name. During her set, Raveena delivered powerful vocals, twirled and danced around, and covered one of her favorite artists Aaliyah.

The last act of the night was Tinashe, a pop artist from California. Tinashe has almost fifteen million monthly listeners on Spotify, and her song “2 On” has garnered more than 440 million streams. This year, Tinashe released her album Quantum Baby, and was also featured on the “B2b” remix alongside Charli XCX. Tinashe’s set design incorporated large screens and surveillance cameras, and she wore a fashionable outfit accessorized with sunglasses and boots. She opened with her track “Getting No Sleep,” and sang and served alongside her backup dancers. Her setlist included both old and new fan favorites such as “Needs,” “All Hands on Deck” and “Nasty.” Overall, both Raveena and Tinashe brought the energy to Dallas.

I am a Dallas-based photographer who has an appreciation for both the arts and music! Besides photographing concerts, I also enjoy doing creative portraits and working in Photoshop. I spend my free time either playing the cello, guitar, or piano or collecting CDs and vinyls. I would say my top three favorite artists are Peter McPoland, The Beatles, and Harry Styles! I’m currently a senior in high school, but I plan to major in graphic design and one day turn concert photography into a career.
