Legendary hip-hop group, Cypress Hill, stop at the House of Blues in Dallas to give Texans a show full of rhythm and rhyme.
The line towards the House of Blues in Dallas wraps around the corner as fans of all ages anticipate the doors to open to begin the evening. As the line slowly makes its way inside the building, some fans rush towards the barricade to find the best view, while others find themselves heading near the merchandise, looking for something to commemorate a night of nostalgic tunes.
Not long after the music hall packed in with people, the first opener, Souls of Mischief, blew away the crowd with a beat that remained unique to this Oakland native group. Souls of Mischief formed in 1991 as a West Coast alternative style rap group. To this day, the group is still performing to audiences around the country, and a perfect opener for Cypress Hill.
Before Cypress Hill makes their appearance on stage, alternative rap quartet, The Pharcyde, created a high energy environment for the audience to prepare for the night. Originally, The Pharcyde is from South Central Los Angeles and released their first album in 1992. It didn’t take long for The Pharcyde to pick up a fan base, they even had the opportunity to play support slots for A Tribe Called Quest. As the Dallas fans got riled up with upbeat and complex beats, the fans soon anticipated for their main performance to take on the set.
As Cypress Hill made their appearance, the crowd went wild. It didn’t take long for B-Real and Sen Dog to bust out in perfect and fast beat rhymes, bringing a party-like environment straight to Dallas. Although Cypress Hill may be new to some concert-goers at the House of Blues, they are a well seasoned group, forming in 1988 and releasing funky and timeless tracks that any generation can enjoy.
And Cypress Hill is still not done yet, with plenty of shows left on their 2024 World Tour, stopping across the U.S., Europe, and Canada. So, if you want to experience a fun night of rap and funk, Cypress Hill’s tour is for you.
I am currently attending the University of North Texas with a photojournalism major. I love going to concerts of all genres, whether I am stage diving or headbanging, I never miss an opportunity to appreciate live music. In my free time, I enjoy thrifting for CD's and records, spending time with my cats, going to art exhibits, and traveling (especially to NYC). My biggest inspiration is Danny Clinch, and one day I aspire to open up my own gallery to showcase my work!
