Cohen illuminates the Ukrainian Village with support from local artist Mia Joy at the Empty Bottle in Chicago.
On October 30th, Mia Joy was set to open Chris Cohen’s North American Tour in the Windy City. The low hum of chatter from the dark edgy venue began to rise as the last of Marlboro Cigarettes were stubbed and Old Style beer-filled glasses clinked. Gliding in from the side, Mia and her band took center stage, dressed in festive clown attire. Mia strummed her baby pink guitar instantly captivating the crowd. The Chicago artist moved gracefully, with soft pastel lights washing over her as she transitioned from tune to tune, beaming an ethereal aura. The fervor of each band member resonated through their instruments, creating a lovely harmony that was hard to ignore. It was difficult to take one’s eyes off the vibrant clowns, and the audience couldn’t help but shout words of encouragement as they performed. True to her name, Mia was soft and sweet, showcasing both old and new singles from her upcoming EP, Celestial Mirror. There’s no doubt that Mia and her band were a wonderful opener for this tour’s show, as she too is a fan of Cohen’s artistry. To close her set, Mia Joy treated the audience to a solo cover by Blaze Foley, making it safe to say that she gained an even larger following in Chicago that evening.
As the electric guitar strikes, Chris Cohen hits the stage at the Empty Bottle with a bang. The energy from the audience is palpable as they gather around the stage for a closer look. Blue lights glare off Cohen’s bifocals as he sways his head from side to side, grooving to the gentle psychedelic sounds of his music. His voice, rich and mesmerizing; flows effortlessly through the air, weaving a spell that envelopes the audience in a gentle embrace. Shouts from the crowd crescendo as top hits such as “Green Eyes” and “Randy’s Chimes” blare from the large venue speakers. Enchanted by the chords of Cohen’s cherry red guitar, one couldn’t help but move along with its rhythm as his lyrics swept you away into a tranquil state. Each band member’s expression reflects their enjoyment and passion as they play throughout the night. The performance features tunes from all four of Cohen’s records, ensuring one hears their favorite song. Playfully, jokes of Halloween and laughter are exchanged between Cohen and the keyboardist, Brendan Glasson, creating an atmosphere that’s light and full of radiant energy. Dancers in the audience, shouts of encouragement, and smiles abound, Chicago is undoubtedly happy to have hosted Chris Cohen. This North American tour is highly recommended and essential for all music lovers wanting to enjoy exceptional live performances!
