Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Day Wilson graced the stage at the Houston House of Blues alongside opener Ouri on a Friday evening.
The evening began in an intimate venue, The Bronze Peacock Room, at the Houston’s House of Blues, a seemingly appropriate space for the music the audience was about to indulge in. Singer Ouri kicked off the night, with her smooth soulful music, almost mirroring that of Charlotte’s, which set the tone wonderfully for the concert.
After Ouri’s set was finished, she joined the stage again alongside the woman of the evening, Charlotte Day Wilson. The audience was gleeful with anticipation for Charlotte, and she did not disappoint. Charlotte began her set with “Mountains”, a strong, emotionally charged ballad that had everyone in the audience singing along and was moved by the intense vocals of a record that had as much power and beauty as the song’s subject matter. In just the time between the first few songs, the audience got to witness Charlotte move between multiple instruments alongside Ouri, who complemented Charlotte on stage perfectly. It seems almost rare these days to find musicians like this who put as much heart and soul into their lyrics as much as they do their instruments.
It was pure R&B/Soul at its finest and in the first few minutes alone, it felt as though the crowd got their money’s worth, and then some. Wilson, has been making a name for herself since her debut in 2016, as a rising star in the R&B and Soul scene, working alongside artists such as BADBADNOTGOOD, Syd, and Channel Tres amongst others. Her latest release, Cyan Blue, proves that not only is she still going strong, but that she may be just beginning on a long, successful career as a musician, and Houston was lucky enough to witness a testament to her greatness.
I’m a photographer currently based in Austin after recently relocating from Denver, CO. I graduated from the University of Colorado, Denver in 2019 with a degree in Business Management. I love music of all genres and have been going to live shows since I was 5 years old. Some of my favorite artist currently include Freddie Gibbs, Lola Young, Ivy Lab and Knocked Loose, but that is always subject to change.
