Australian Reggae-Rock Band Ocean Alley Transports Fans to a Tropical Rock Paradise

Australian band, Ocean Alley, brings some good energy, reggae rock, and all the tropical feels to Austin, Texas.

Over an hour before the doors opened at Emo’s Austin, a line was already wrapping around the building. Fans were eager to secure their spots to see Australian Rock band Ocean Alley sold out in Austin, Texas.

The night began with The Grogans, an Australian Garage Rock band from Melbourne. The night’s energy was set high as drummer, Jordan Lewis, laid it down on the drums. The band finished their set with “Hey Ma’am” and passed out their handwritten set list to fans.

Soon after, Emo’s Austin was filled with sounds of Reggae Rock as Ocean Alley took the stage. Concertgoers went wild as the band transported them into a tropical rock paradise starting with “Touch Back Down” and “Knees”. Groups formed in the audience as people made friends to rock out with. The band recently started their North American 2024 tour, selling out their first 6 shows including this stop in Austin. The tour will finish in Hawaii at the end of July before Ocean Alley heads to their UK and Europe 2024 Tour.

Lead singer, Baden Donegal, floated around the stage during the band’s hit “Confidence”, encouraging the crowd to scream the words they know so well. Fans showed their loyalty by singing every word to Mellow Yellow, a song the band released back in 2013. As the night ended, the set closed with Donegal jumping up and down passionately to “Happy Sad”. The band came back on for a final encore including “Partner in Crime” as well as a cover of “Baby Come Back/Slide”. Donegal made his way to the crowd during the last chorus of “Baby Come Back” to take a selfie video on a concert goers phone. Following the set, the crowd slowly scattered after exchanging hugs and joys from the night. The energy of the venue was high and the community of fans was strong.

I am a photographer from San Antonio. I found a love for photography when I was in High School and was able to take classes in college to further my skills. I love the outdoors, hiking, reading, and finding new music. Some of my favorite artists are The Band Camino, Coldplay, RHCP, and Phoebe Bridgers.
