Austin Psych Fest 2025: Day Three Recap

Dinosaur Jr. finished out Day 3 of Austin Psych Fest at The Far Out Lounge on Sunday, April 27th.

The festival brought artists and fans alike to enjoy a nice reset. Attendees left feeling lighter than they arrived and ready to tackle the long summer ahead.

La Luz

The ladies of La Luz floated onto the Willie Nelson stage, hypnotizing the audience as the sun went down. The band played a few tunes off their latest album News of the Universe. “Dandelions” live sounded the way the sunset looked. The group’s harmonies on “I’ll Go With You” were so magnetic. Everyone was grinning and swaying, the world was lighter for a moment. I couldn’t help but admire lead singer, Shana Cleveland for her resilience and talent. She is a cancer survivor and the mother of a young son. Seeing her perform was truly transformative.

Holy Wave

Hailing from El Paso is Holy Wave, a dreamy, neo-psych band with roots in their local DIY scene. Their hazy sound combined elements of yesterday and tomorrow to transcend those in the audience. This year the group released a record titled Studio 22 Singles and B-Sides which features playful and light tracks that feel floaty and inviting.

Yo La Tengo

The legendary trio, Yo La Tengo, hit the Willie stage to a wall of faithful fans. The band has been around for over forty years and has amassed a collection of die-hards new and old. Vocalist and percussionist Georgia Hubley was careful and cool on the drums, keeping perfect rhythm for her bandmates until they decided to switch instruments for fun. The ever-evolving group has released over 15 albums with their most recent being 2023’s This Stupid World.

Bôa

British band Bôa mystified fans on the Janis stage. The group’s groovy bass and twinkly guitar in songs like “Duvet” and “Twilight” charmed the audience like a serpent. The band released their album Whiplash in 2024 after their fanbase was galvanized by TikTok virality. Their new song “Crawling” blends so well into their existing sound, it was indistinguishable from some of the older songs in the set.

Dinosaur Jr.

Dinosaur Jr. headlined Day 3 of Austin Psych Fest on the Willie Nelson stage. “I feel the pain of everyone, then I feel nothing” echoed from J Mascis’ mouth, immediately uniting everyone within earshot. The band played their entire 1994 album Without a Sound which accrued the largest crowd of the entire festival. Time turned back with favorites like “Grab It” and “Over Your Shoulder”. Back by the Janis stage, a couple swayed and giggled on the empty dance floor. It was the perfect scene to end a beautiful weekend. So long Austin Psych Fest, until next year!

I am a student at Texas State studying Digital Media and Psychology. I am always carrying my camera with me, it feels like my true voice. Some of my favorite artists are Courtney Barnett, Tainy, Frank Ocean, Art Lown, Fleshwater, Turnover, SZA and Wynton Kelly. Central Texas always has talented people passing through and I try to catch as many shows I can. I really love fashion, part of the fun of going to a concert is seeing what the artists wear on stage and everyone's outfits in the crowd. I tend to use musical elements in my fashion photography, the two are so intertwined to me. I also love to read and run, but not always at the same time.

I am an Austin-based photographer and social media manager. My love for photography started in high school which lead me to study communications at Texas Tech University and The University of the Incarnate Word. Aside from my love for photography and live music, I enjoy spinning vinyl, kayaking, biking, and chilling with my cat, Petrie.
