Austin City Limits 2024: Weekend Two, Day Three

The final day of the Austin City Limits Music Festival saw both Chappell Roan and Tyler, the Creator perform their send-off shows.

While many incredible artists played Sunday, everybody at the Austin City Limits festival knew that the day was about Chappell Roan. Fans decked out in pink appeared at every show, and the crowd in front of the American Express stage appeared as soon as the gates opened and only continued to grow throughout the day.

DAIISTAR

The alt-indie Austin locals kicked off the day on the Miller Lite stage. It’s always great to see the Austin music scene represented at the city’s biggest festival, and this band used both psychedelic sounds and colorful visuals.

Malcolm Todd

The next alt-indie artist has a more relaxed sound, though that doesn’t mean the guitar solos aren’t incredibly skillful. Todd and his band have a unique sound that hits the spot for fans of the genre.

flipturn

Rock band flipturn played the giant American Express stage, with a cover of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and new single “Juno” off of their upcoming album Burnout Days. They had great energy, with the drummer even bringing a cymbal and drum to the barricade to rock out for a song.

Cannons

The indie-pop band followed up flipturn on the American Express stage. Unfortunately the synthwave music had to be played during the daytime, but the band put on a great show for the Sunday crowd.

Chappell Roan

It’s been impossible to not hear about Chappell Roan this year. She had a historic rise to fame over the past couple of months, but her run of shows finally came to an end on Sunday. Practically the whole park watched her, and a sea of hands went up in the air for “HOT TO GO!” She ended with her anthem “Pink Pony Club,” and the city of Austin could hear the crowd singing from miles outside the festival.

Tyler, the Creator

Tyler, the Creator knows how to put on a show. He always puts effort into his presentation, with this show themed after the American southwest. The set kicked off with “CORSO,” a high-energy song accompanied by pyrotechnics onstage. Tyler threw it back to some of his earliest songs, with new and extended intros to build suspense around what would come next. Fireworks, raining sparks, and columns of fire all filled the stage, sometimes all at once. The night ended with “See You Again,” a sendoff for the end of Tyler’s festival run as well as ACL as a whole.

ACL Fest Overall

This year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival certainly did not disappoint, with the festival bringing their best and the best giving their all. The Texas heat made Sunday the hottest ACL on record with a high of 97, but the final day was incredible nonetheless.
