Currently on their North American Tour, Animal Collective performed an incredible set in Houston with special guest Sham.
The venue was full of Animal Collective fans, everyone preparing for the night full of enthralling tunes. Starting off the night was sham, which is the moniker for artist Shane McCord. According to Spotify, most of his music is in collaboration with Mikey Powers, other friends and magnetic tape. Sham’s set consisted of new arrangements of old/new songs, such as “This Abundant Life” and “I Want to be Golden.” McCord was also accompanied by a 5 piece-band, who really brought a tranquil vibe to the entire performance.
Animal Collective took the stage soon after. The band has been around since 1999 and are best known for experimental sounds and psychedelia visuals – an incredible blend to experience live. Most recently, they released their astounding fourteenth album called Time Skiffs earlier this year. Since the beginning of their tour, they have been rotating setlists and playing a different combinations of songs every night. They started off their Houston set with “In the Flowers,” followed by “Gem and I” and “Car Keys.” Throughout the set, they had amazing visuals to back their songs, and everyone was in a musical trance. Animal Collective perfectly ended the night with “For Reverend Green.”

I'm a full-time music journalist/photographer from Houston, number one Paramore fan and Husky dog owner. I have a B.S in Radio-Television-Film from UT Austin and a M.A in Mass Communications from the University of Houston, which makes me smart! On top of being an avid concert-goer and movie fanatic, I love bonding with others over the power of local music and media.
