R&B Artist Orion Sun takes over Scoot Inn in Austin in support of her latest album titled Orion.
Multi-instrumentalist and multi-disciplined artist Orion Sun has steadily been building an incredibly loyal and loving fan base since she started releasing music back in 2017. Not only has the East Coast based artist been creating a one of a kind genre blending sound of R&B, neo-soul, and indie but she has also put her visual art skills to use creating her covers for her first EP as well as a few of her early singles, showcasing that her talents extend far beyond music, as she has carefully curated a whole aura of feelings, visuals, and sound into her aesthetic.
Orion is known for her smooth, emotional voice and lyrics, beautifully chosen imagery, and warm and inviting energy. She was able to capture that all and bring it to life for her first headlining show in the capital of Texas at the historic Scoot Inn in support of her second LP release, Orion. The announcement for this album was exciting news for long time fans; it had been four years since she had previously released music, but it was well worth the wait.
On Orion, the artist explores a difficult heartbreak, her lowest moments and the triumphs and beauty she felt conquering her hardships. The album sent listeners through an array of emotions, which transitioned into an incredible live performance.
On the night of the show you could feel the excitement and positivity from her adoring fans in the air as the feelings of anticipation built up. Taking place in the outdoor venue in the heart of downtown Austin, the city was lively and good energy was felt throughout the room. Not only was Scoot Inn a perfectly fitting environment for the concert, it also fit the stage setup extremely well. It was designed from her album artwork from Orion, curated by Ms. Sun in collaboration with artist Malene Renoylds who painted the cover art.
Rocking a stripped down outfit of a plan, collared shirt, jeans and a Terry Black’s hat, showing love to the city, Sun opened the show with her with the first track off Orion, ….When I Was In Love, a short but sweet intro to the show has she graced the stage and welcomed the audience. The vibes were high and the crowd was screaming in admiration as she immediately went into her hit single Antidote, a beloved feel good car drive tune from her first EP.
The setlist was very well put together showcasing fan favorites such as Dirty Dancer, Concrete, Space Jam- An Odyssey and intro from her Getaway EP and tracks from her latest release like Already Gone, Sick, and Coming Home. As the crowd became lost in the music, Orion never took a moment to break away from the crowd as she maintained amazing interactions with the audience, smiling at gleeful fans, waving and shaking hands with audience members and sharing laughs in between sets.
In the middle of the set, to the audience’s surprise Orion actually walked off stage and danced through the crowd to see her fans face to face and bask in the moment with everyone. The set was nothing short of spectacular and the night came to a close as the crowd came home overjoyed from the remarkable experience. One thing’s for sure, Austin will be ready for Orion Sun the next time her tour rolls around.
I’m a photographer currently based in Austin after recently relocating from Denver, CO. I graduated from the University of Colorado, Denver in 2019 with a degree in Business Management. I love music of all genres and have been going to live shows since I was 5 years old. Some of my favorite artist currently include Freddie Gibbs, Lola Young, Ivy Lab and Knocked Loose, but that is always subject to change.
