There’s a new band in town and they are taking over convenience stores near you. Capital Vice, an indie alt-rock band formed in 2024, drew a crowd during their high energy set at Friendly Rio Market in Austin, Texas.
Between the shelves and under the fluorescent lights, Capital Vice delivered an unforgettable performance last Sunday at Friendly Rio Market, a unique venue in the heart of West Campus. With their newly released EP Candid and a fresh music video for the track “Hatman,” the band drew an energetic crowd eager to witness their explosive sound live.
The corner store-turned-venue provided an intimate, raw backdrop that perfectly matched Capital Vice’s grit and energy. The band’s dynamic presence immediately captured the audience and created a sea of head banging. Their setlist included the tracks from Candid as well as unreleased originals. But of course, “Hatman” undeniably stole the show. The song’s story-like verses and driving rhythm had the crowd entranced, proving why it’s their signature song in their collection.
The interaction between the band members was entertaining, their energy was infectious, and their sound was sharp. From the guitar riffs to the powerful drums, every element came together to create an energetic atmosphere. The lead singer’s crowd work took the show to another level during their cover of “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind by passing the microphone around and inviting them to join in on the lyrics.
By the end of the set, the entire crowd had begun singing and jumping with the band. In a climactic end, the singer poured water over himself, a performance finale that left the crowd buzzing with excitement. Applause rang out as fans watched the band hit the final chord and end their set with a bang.
Capital Vice’s performance at Rio Market was more than just a show—it was a testament to the thriving talent within Austin’s alternative rock scene. With Candid setting the tone for their ascent, Capital Vice is undoubtedly a band to watch.
