Afro-Beat Artist, Mannywellz, Brings the Rhythm to Houston

The rise of the Afrobeat genre has been reaching mainstream music. Artists like Burna Boy, Tems and Rema are pioneers in that shift with other artists pushing the music as well. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, and raised in Washington D.C., Mannywellz has been making waves with his unique take on afro beat.

He recently released his EP Lala with features from artists like Eric Bellinger and SOLOMON. Now he is on his Mr. Oúlala tour with supporting acts being local artists in front of the city he stops by.

As the night fell in Houston, the Bronze Peacock room began to fill up as the sold-out show began to draw near. There were fans from all ages with their best outfit on. The stage set was with his set with drums, keys, DJ and a traditional talking drum.

The crowd began chanting his name over and over until he stepped on stage. Mannywellz stepped out with baggy jorts, a football jersey and a cute beanie that had bear ears. Smiling from ear to ear, he began his performance with fan favorites like “Floating” and “Sweet & Tender.” With a great set of live vocals and a live band, his energy drew you in and made you dance along with him. You could tell he was having fun as he sang each song with great passion.

A highlight of the show was when he performed “Fashion” and made the audience make a runway in the pit. The fans would walk down the middle and strike their best pose. Eventually, he came down and performed inside the crowd. This was something cool to see as this was a great way to make your show a memorable one.

Mannywellz wrapped up his show with his popular songs “Peace,” “Magic” and “Ouu Ahh.” The Houston crowd embraced him with southern warmth as they sang along to his songs the whole night.

Mannywellz is continuing his tour across the states so if you want to see a great live show that makes you dance all night you need to catch a show!
