ACL Fest Nights – The Marías Present CINEMA at Stubb’s Amphitheater

Los Angeles-based band The Marías performed an intimate sold-out show in Austin to promote their debut album CINEMA.

The Marías rose to stardom with critically acclaimed hits like “Cariño” and “Only in my Dreams.” Earlier this year, they announced their headlining tour along with a tour extension that focused on cities they missed the first time around. Austin’s show was originally set for February, but was postponed until October – which eventually became an official ACL Fest Night. The band also made their way down to Austin City Limits Music Festival and played both weekends.

The night started off with singer/songwriter Zella Day, who hyped up the crowd with her creative vocal arrangements and “one-woman band” appearance. The Marías came out soon after, and started off the night with fan-favorite tracks “Talk to Her,” “Calling U Back” and “Un millón.” Lead singer María Zardoya received flowers from the crowd, and fans were absolutely thrilled. Another fan also handed Zardoya a painting, which she claimed was “super cute” and put it on the stage for the Austin crowd to see.

They continued to play songs from their EPs Superclean Volume II such as “Ruthless” and “Clueless.” At one point, Zardoya made the comment that Austin was really loud, and that she loved it. Towards the end of their set, they played an unreleased track Zardoya said they wrote a few weeks back called “Love You Anyway.” She also asked the crowd “Adonde esta mi familia Latina?” and asked about the different heritages in the audience that night – a sweet sentiment for the Latinx community in Austin. The Marías played the first song they ever wrote as a band called “I Don’t Know You” as well as their collaborative song with Bad Bunny called “Otro Atardecer.”

For their encore, they ended their Austin show with “Talk to Her” and “Cariño,” and the entire crowd was swaying and singing their hearts out. Their show felt like an indie-pop dance party as everyone was dancing and singing the lyrics to their favorite songs. Zardoya’s voice was extremely satisfying to hear live, and the entire band’s stage presence was immaculate – their crowd interactions and passionate melodies made for a great performance.
