Indie-rock band Flipturn is making their way back to Texas for Austin City Limits, and their live performance is not one to miss.
Since their formation in 2015, Florida-based band Flipturn has left a lasting mark on the music industry. Their debut release came in 2017 with the EP Heavy Colors, featuring one of their most recognizable tracks, “Chicago.” The song captures the essence of summer evoking feelings that stay consistent with the overall vibe of their music.
Their debut album Shadowglow, released in 2022, showcases their musical growth with fourteen tracks, including popular songs like “Sad Disco” and “Space Cowboy.” The album demonstrates Flipturn’s talent for combining introspective lyrics with upbeat rhythms. In 2023, they followed up with Shadowglow (Deluxe), which includes live versions of several tracks. As the band has noted, Shadowglow is “best enjoyed in the company of others,” reflecting their emphasis on the shared experience that defines their music.
Live performances are a key factor to the band’s identity, and they have built much of their reputation through their captivating shows. Touring with artists like Mt. Joy, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and The Moss, as well as appearing at major festivals, has helped solidify their place in the indie-rock scene. This fall, they have an exciting schedule lined up including a European tour, festivals such as Fin Fest, Ohana Fest, All Things Go Festival, and The Texas State Fair.
Flipturn will be performing at Austin City Limits this October, on the 6th 13th. On both nights, for weekend one and weekend two, Flipturn will be performing at the American Express stage from 2:45 to 3:45. They will also be performing at ACL Fest Nights which is taking place on Saturday October 12th, at Soot Inn, where they will be playing along with the band Hotel Fiction.
Flipturn aims to create a sense of community through their music and live performances, bringing people together with their high energy and evocative songs. Whether through in-person interactions, social media, or on stage, the band continuously engages with their fans, fostering a genuine connection. Their commitment is reflected through both their songs and their concerts, making them a band that is truly worth watching.
Austin City Limits 2024 will be happening on 10/4-10/6 and 10/11-10/13. Check out the full lineup and get your ACL tickets here.
I am a Dallas-based photographer who has an appreciation for both the arts and music! Besides photographing concerts, I also enjoy doing creative portraits and working in Photoshop. I spend my free time either playing the cello, guitar, or piano or collecting CDs and vinyls. I would say my top three favorite artists are Peter McPoland, The Beatles, and Harry Styles! I’m currently a senior in high school, but I plan to major in graphic design and one day turn concert photography into a career.
