New Zealand Singer/Songwriter Kimbra returns to Austin to perform a beautiful set at one of the city’s best venues.
Kimbra is no stranger to being on the road. Most recently, she released her fourth album called A Reckoning, which featured a refreshing sound and singles like “Save Me,” and “Foolish Thinking.” The New Zealand singer has a multitude of popular tracks in her discography, which includes her feature in the hit song “Somebody that I Used to Know” with Belgian-Australian singer Gotye. She is currently on a North American tour promoting the new album, where she is performing in intimate settings.
Columbian/Canadian singer Tei Shi opened the night, where she wow’d the audience with her powerful vocals and bedroom-pop sounds. She sang songs like “Twilight” and “Bad Premonition,” including spanglish tracks like “¿Quién Te Manda?” and “Matando.” The crowd was swaying through her set, which allowed everyone to prepare for the headlining act.
The lights in the venue were dimmed down, and Kimbra shortly came out wearing a lovely two-piece outfit. Kimbra opened with “Save Me,” and continued to play other songs from the album such as “new habit,” “personal space” and “gun.” She also played a few oldies like “Love in High Places” from her sophomore album The Golden Echo and a cool solo rendition of “Settle Down” from her debut album Vows. She ended the set with a powerful extension of the song “Version of Me” from her third album Primal Heart. Kimbra is an amazing force who continues to make waves even after 10 years as a singer. Austin loved every part of the show, as people were singing along and kept hyping her up in all ways possible. Kimbra also made small talk throughout the show, making it all the more intimate.
We highly encourage you to check out Kimbra on tour in a city near you. We also recommend catching a show at Empire Control Room + Garage, as the venue always exceeds expectations and sets up a great ambiance for special shows.
