Spencer Sutherland Was “In His Mania” During His Sold-Out Show in Houston

Spencer Sutherland returned to Houston and performed various songs from his debut album In His Mania.

Spencer Sutherland, the indie pop singer-songwriter from Ohio, brought the heat to a packed room at House of Blues Houston this past weekend. Sutherland gained fame for being a contestant on the X Factor as well as serving as an opener during Big Time Rush’s comeback tour. He’s only becoming more notable in the indie scene, and he definitely proved his talent in Houston.

Starting of the night was the enchanting Cloe Wilder, who serenaded the audience with original tracks and cover songs of The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” and Lana del Rey’s “Video Games.” After Wilder, the next opener Dylan Conrique took the stage and performed a combination of oldies and unreleased songs. She ended her set with “Birthday Cake,” also known as the hit the “changed her life.” Both Wilder’s and Conrique’s did a great job at setting the scene for what was yet to come.

Before Sutherland closed out the night, fans took advantage of April Fool’s and decided to welcome him by facing away from him. As soon as the lights turned dimmed, everyone couldn’t help it and immediately ended up facing forward to an energetic Sutherland jumping all over the stage. He opened with fan favorites “Everybody,” “Jealousy” and “Tell Me,” with Sutherland expressing gratitude for all the singing fans. In true fashion, the singer also participated in an April Fool’s joke where he jokingly claimed he would have Big Time Rush open for him this upcoming summer. He proceeded to play more hits from his debut album, along with a fun cover of “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John.

Overall, Sutherland proved that he is here to stay – his stage presence was energetic and lively, he interacted with fans throughout the entire night, and no one stood still during the entire set. What makes it all the better is how the audience feeds off his growing energy and charisma, creating a whole-hearted show – something all music lovers should witness live.

On top of being an avid concert-goer and movie fanatic, I love bonding with others over the power of local music and media.
