I know – we also can’t fathom the fact that Off Record Blog is a year-old already. In order to celebrate our publication’s first birthday, here is a quick glimpse of some of our best accomplishments thus far.
Stellar Contributors Around the Nation
The blog was founded by three Texas-based creatives – Keylee, Emily and Anthony. We decided to expand our realms, where we found some of the best contributors anyone could ask for. Besides staying top of their stuff and allowing us to get coverage from all over the U.S, our top-notch contributors always find new ways to make our publication more engaging. First Major Festival Appearance: South by Southwest 2022 in Austin, TX
We (unofficially) attended South by Southwest this year and it was one of the most amazing experience. South by Southwest is known for showcasing upcoming artists from all around the world, and it was the perfect place for us to get involved and cover these artists. We are still buzzing about many of the artists we saw like KALI, Faux Real, SASAMI and Chancla Fight Club. Not only was this a fun event to cover, it was a collaborative effort amongst the admins and contributors – all we can say is that Off Record Blog is ready for next year.
Meeting and Interviewing Various Upcoming Artists
We’ve met with so many great musicians from around the nation and got the chance to interview! Our first interview was with Bad Bad Hats right after their release for their third album Walkman, and we’ve gotten the opportunity to see them at this year’s South by Southwest. We’ve also met with other artists like Stello and Chancla Fight Club – we learned that talking to artists about their works is important and we are definitely planning for more of these!
Multiple Kinds of Successful Concert Coverage
Our publication focuses on more than just getting a press pass to a show. All of our contributors are super involved in the music scene and they are known for writing creative show reviews that set the scene and allow our readers to imagine a show’s environment. Since our launch, we’ve attended a multitude of shows from so many different artists – from bigger name artists like Yves Tumor and Deftones to local artists like Oh Hooray (from Houston) and Sun June (from Austin).
One year down, and so many more to go. As Off Record Blog, we aim to give a platform and support different artists/creatives in any way we can – whether it’s covering their shows, conducting an interview, or simply writing about their works. We also aim to help people get involved in the music journalism industry by providing opportunities to do so. We thank everyone for participating in our journey, for supporting our blog, and for believing in what we can do as an up-and-coming digital publication. We have so many fun things lined up this year (swag, more cool articles, giveaways, etc.) so stay tuned. Cheers to another year!
